Use an external mouse with a right-click button
Most Mac users that require the right-click feature will simply connect a wireless mouse that includes the right-click button/touch zone
If you’re using a laptop with a trackpad and don’t want an external mouse, there are also a couple of ways to simulate the right-click mouse action which we’ll look at next.
Use Control + Click
One of the easiest ways to simulate a right-click on a Mac is to hold down the “control” key on the keyboard and click with your trackpad (or Mac mouse).
Activate secondary click on a trackpad
Another easy solution for right-clicking on a laptop with a trackpad is to activate the Secondary Click feature in the trackpad settings.
To activate Secondary Click on your trackpad, follow these steps:
- Open “System Preferences”. You can do this by typing in “System Preferences” into a spotlight search (magnifying glass symbol in the top right of the menu bar).
- Navigate to Trackpad by clicking on the “Trackpad” icon.
- This will open a Trackpad settings box. In the “Point & Click” tab you can activate the “Secondary Click” feature by clicking on the checkbox next to this option.
Test the change on your desktop by tapping anywhere on the trackpad with two fingers. A small box of features should appear. You can also change the settings so that you right-click when you click on the bottom right of the trackpad or the bottom left.
Activate secondary click on Magic mouse.
Go to “System Preferences” > “Mouse” > “Secondary click” and choose the setup option you prefer.
